She was born in Brooklyn, New York, and was raised in Detroit, Michigan. At an early age, she appeared on the television show Star Search and performed in concert alongside Gladys Knight. At age 12, Aaliyah was signed to Jive Records and Blackground Records by her uncle, Barry Hankerson. He introduced her to R. Martin Luther King was a great man! He dedicated his life to a cause that he held very dear to his heart. I am personally so glad that Dr. Martin Luther King had the courage to stand up for what he believed in, seldom do you find a person who is willing to risk the safety on their life and their family’s life for something they truly believe in, not only did he want equal rights for African Americans but he wanted everyone to be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin. Thats why I know that on January 15, 1929 a leader was born! Happy Birthday Dr. Martin Luther King!!
